The Faculty is proud to announce that Professor Alison Young (Robinson College) will be taking up an appointment as a Law Commissioner for Public Law and the Law in Wales from March 2024 for five years. While we are very sorry that this means Professor Young will be taking leave from her Faculty post to enable her to serve as a Law Commissioner, we are delighted that she will have the opportunity to bring her enormous expertise to bear in the service of the Commission’s law reform programme.
Professor Young is currently the Sir David Williams Professor of Public Law, Faculty Director of Research, and a Fellow of Robinson College. She is also currently a legal advisor to the House of Lords Select Committee on the Constitution and an academic associate at 39 Essex Chambers. She is a member of the Editorial Board of Public Law, and also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Alison was also recently made Honorary Doctor of Laws at the University of Worcester.
Alison joins the Law Commission at a time of great constitutional, economic, social, scientific and technical change and will be instrumental in leading law reform in England & Wales. In doing so, Alison will replace Nicholas Paines KC following his ten-year stint at the Commission.
Alison said, "I’m honoured to have been given this opportunity to play an important role in law reform in public law and the law in Wales. I’m looking forward to using the knowledge and expertise I’ve gained from my time at Cambridge to take on this new and exciting challenge."
